What does a nanny do?

A nanny will care for your child or children in your own home. She or he (there are few male nannies, but they do exist) should hold a recognised qualification in childcare. A nanny will be responsible for the following:

• Planning a varied choice of activities, visits and meals to suit your child's development
• Shopping and preparing meals
• Cleaning your child's room
• Washing and ironing your child's clothes and bedclothes
• Assisting in the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of your child.

Because of the considerable responsibility placed upon a nanny, you should satisfy yourself that you have found a carer that you can trust.
