Having a good relationship with your Nanny is essential for your children’s good up bringing; but being an employer is not an easy task particularly when your employee is working with in your home and family. Here are some hints on how to build a good working relationship with your Nanny.
Communicate: Good communication between any employer and employee is the main key factor in a relationship if you are to succeed as a team. When your Nanny starts her new role, be clear with your instruction concerning her duties and reassure her if there are any problems, she’s free to discuss them with you.
Poor communication can result in small issues escalating out of portion where by your Nanny may feel aggrieved to the point where she may consider leaving because she is unhappy.
Listen: Listening in reality is a hard thing to do. Remember, your Nanny will grow to know your children very well and she will be full of new information about them. At the end of the day, take a little time to hear how she’s coping and ask how the children are progressing. Taking an interest in your Nannies duties will make her feel valued.
Appreciate: Remember to appreciate your Nanny and make her aware that you are happy with what she is doing; maybe buy her some flowers or a box of chocolates now and again, these little gestures go a long way.
Become one of the Family: A Nanny is a very important part of your family because she is looking after the most precious thing in your live, so try and make her feel like one of the family. If she feels like one of the family then she will love your children like her own, she will be content in what she is doing and go out of her way to make you happy and do what you want her to do and this is hopefully to make your children’s lives a happy and fulfilled one.
Work together: Children are very clever and they know how to play one adult against the other, try to remember this and if your child is being naughty and winding you both up, you have to stick together and discipline in the same way so the child understands that they won’t get away with being naughty and play one against the other.
If you can remember all of these points then hopefully you will have a good working relation with your Nanny and she will stay with you for as long as you need her, which is very important for the children because if they have lots of different Nannies that look after them this can be very unsettling for them.
