Nursery jobs involve working with children between the ages of 3 months to pre school age, either part or full time. You would work in settings such as local authority or privately owned nurseries.

There are several nursery job possibilities: Note: salary indications are for full time nursery positions, part time would be paid pro-rata.

Nursery managers: are responsible for the day-to-day running and financial management of a nursery. They manage staff and oversee the childcare and education activities provided in their nursery. They aim to give the children who attend the best possible start in life. Nursery managers may earn around £35,000.

Deputy managers: work alongside the Manager to support and assist them with the running of the Nursery. The successful applicant will be passionate about working in childcare, work well within a team and develop excellent relationships with parents. Deputy nursery managers can earn around £20,000 to £25,000.

Room leaders: are responsible for assisting in the day to day running and activities of the nursery and also have the responsibility of running the room. You will also be required to communicate with the parents: Making sure they are fully satisfied by providing feedback from all nursery staff. Nursery room leaders may earn between £14,500 and £18,000 a year.

Nursery nurse: A nursery nurse is responsible for providing the best possible standards of care and education, as well as ensuring the environment is safe and secure, where the children are valued as individuals through a loving and child-centred approach. They must ensure the children have access to learning opportunities throughout their time at the nursery. They can earn be between £10,000 and £12,000 a year, depending on age.

Qualifications

• CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
• BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development
• NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development – you may need to arrange a relevant work placement.
