Going back to work after having a baby

More and more mums are returning back to work after having a baby. The most common reason was for this is financial reasons. This highlights the problems facing women who desperately want to stay at home to raise their children, but simply cannot afford to.

More than half said financial pressure, particularly significant debt problems, was to blame.
The most common answer was simply: 'Money was tight', while others said: 'We were in serious debt by the time I returned to work and needed the income to repay it.'
Just one in five said their main reason for going back to work was because they wanted to continue with their career, and 16 per cent said they wanted 'an alternative in my life to home and family'.
One in ten said they had to cut short their maternity leave because they could not afford to take as long as they had hoped off work.
The crippling size of mortgages which couples are forced to take out to get on to the housing ladder or move into a bigger family home, is to blame.
